Marc Cenedella Bio
Marc Cenedella is the founder and chief executive officer of TheLadders.com, the world's leading online marketplace for $100K+ jobs and $100K+ job seekers.
Marc started TheLadders.com in 2003 to make finding a professional job a lot easier, and transformed the way $100K+ candidates and recruiters connect online. With a membership base of 3.5 million, TheLadders.com job search and recruitment model has been embraced by executives and employers alike, with the company ranking #1 for overall satisfaction in an independent survey of recruiters.
TheLadders.com has received numerous accolades including the 2009 Webby Award for Best Employment Website, 2009 Best Companies to Work for New York, 2009 Silicon Alley Award - Most Likely to be Worth $1 Billion and "Best of the Web" designations by BusinessWeek and Forbes.
Marc is a populist scientist of employment. His passion in life is jobs, their sociology and culture: the process by which everyone passes from family through school and into a career. It's the second most-important thing in people's lives, after love and family and as a result, the subject of jobs itself is Marc's chosen devotion in his professional life. A widely recognized thought leader on job search, career management, recruiting and business, Marc is frequently sought out by national media outlets and organizations for his expert commentary on employment and entrepreneurial related issues.
Prior to founding TheLadders.com, Marc was the senior vice president of Finance and Operations at HotJobs.com, where he orchestrated the company's $436 million sale to Yahoo. Previously, Marc was an associate vice president at The Riverside Company, a New York-based private equity firm.
Marc holds an MBA with high distinction from Harvard Business School, where he was named a Baker Scholar (top 5% of class). He earned his B.A. in political science at Yale.

You can still RSVP and pay online. We will close the RSVP at 5:30 PM. Please arrive no earlier than 5:45 PM. It's called The Skylight Conference Room on the 5th floor. Ring the bell if the door is closed downstairs.
I am happy to see such an intense debate being conducted prior to the event! Great warm-up exercise! I agree with Mary Lou. It's also for branding purposes. Any marketing students would be able to tell you television is still an effective tool when it comes to branding. In particular, if you can get the Super Bowl slot, why not?
I'm not disagreeing with you. The advertising is meant for the employers and recruiters I'm sure. You don't need to advertise to the unemployed!! It should be an interesting meeting on Thurs. Sorry I can't be there now.
I just heard Marc Cenedella speak yesterday at NY Entrepreneur Week. He said they charge to keep the number of applicants down. Frankly they were getting too many to review and a good percentage of them weren't qualified or in the $100K job category.
Are taxis taking advantage of people looking for transport by charging them for rides? How about Trader Joes for charging the desperate hungry for food?
The Ladders is a luxury good and not a monopoly. If people are paying for a $100k job service, something tells me their qualified to weigh the cost/benefit. This isn't a pay day lending service.
That's a legitimate argument. Thanks for the comment. Why not come to ask him that question yourself? Have you talked to him personally? I've got mixed comments about different job searching sites. I will surely bring up your question to him during my interview. But most importantly, I think what we can learn from this session is his entrepreneurial skills. As an Internet entrepreneur myself, I always admire people like him and hope to learn a thing or two at this session.
“ Marc was inspiring and extremely generous with his time--he is the "real deal" definition of what it means to be an entrepreneur. Seating was limited--but it was (surprisingly) not a full house, given Marc's stature in the online business community. Shame on you if you thought twice and didn't attend--next time trust your gut instinct! Kudos to Andrew (NYEBN) for organizing this and to Ray (S.O.S.) for facilitating the program. ”
“ Mark was so generous with insights into the building of his company and shared good commonsense ideas for entrepreneurs. Funny, entertaing and educational. ”
